Jason & I visited Greektown in Detroit for the first time today, located about an hour south of where we live. We both love Greek food, so we did some research online and found the Pegasus Taverna. Their menu had all of our Greek favorites so we decided to check it out.
We were definitely not dissappointed! We started with the Saganaki (flaming cheese) for an appetizer. We were having a hard time selecting a meal, so our server recommended the "Piatela Pegasou," or Pegasus Combination Platter. The platter was HUGE and included lamb chops, broiled shrimp, gyros, spanakotiropeta (spinach cheese pie - leaf spinach, feta cheese and spices in thin filo), dolmathes (seasoned rice, chickpeas, dill, garlic and mint wrapped in grape leaves), Moussaka (eggplant, potatoes, sautéed onions, seasoned with spices), rice and vegetables. We had enough left over to feed a small army!!!! :-)
For dessert (believe it or not, we did save room for dessert!) we had baklava - if you have never tried it, baklava is made of filo dough, honey, nuts cinnamon and sugar and is to die for!
After our meal we wandered around the Greektown Casino, lost $5 in 3 seconds on the slot machines, then decided to head back home because it was 1 degree today - that's right, 1 DEGREE! Even though it was freezing, we managed to have a great time.
