Good news!!!!

I wanted to let everyone know that I am starting a new job on Monday, March 3rd. I am now employed at St. Clair County Community College! (it is referred to as SC4 for short, their website is actually www.sc4.edu)

I will be working part-time as an assistant to the Learning Lab Facilitator in the "Skills to Work" learning lab - this is one of the many programs offered in Michigan to help displaced and unemployed workers prepare for their GED or taking college prep courses. As you may know, the economy in Michigan is highly dependent on the automotive industry; however, many of those jobs are being cut or moved overseas (much like the textile industry in the south). The "Skills to Work" program will help these workers prepare for new careers.

This is a perfect opportunity for me to learn about how a college operates and also give me some teaching and seminar experience! Hopefully this will be the first step in me becoming a college professor!!!!

Accounting class is OVER - I got an A!!!

Hi everyone! I just received my final Accounting grade via email - I ended up with an A!!! This is a huge deal to me since Accounting is my worst subject. I must say, I owe much appreciation to Jessica, my accounting tutor. Not sure I would have made it without her. Thanks Jessica!

So far my MBA GPA is a 3.91 (I got an A- in my Statistics class, and A- apparently count for less points) :-( But I am still quite happy with how the program is going ....

Thanks so much to everyone for the support and words of encouragement throughout the program - next class is Management Info Systems, which I will be relying on my Cisco friends to help me with! :-) Have a great weekend!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope everyone is having a great Valentine's Day! Jason brought me a beautiful bouquet of tulips and lilies in a purple glass vase. They are so pretty and actually make it seem like springtime ........ until you look outside and see all of the snow on the ground :-)

I gave Jason a bag stuffed with goodies - all types of candy, a set of Topps 2007 baseball cards and an Ebay gift certificate to buy yet another autographed baseball. For those that do not know Jason has quite the collection of signed baseballs, including Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Don Mattingly & Tommy Lasorda. But, as you can see in the picture above he still has some spaces in the case to fill!

Some snow pics ...

Over the past few days we have accumulated over a foot of snow!!! I believe most of you have sat at the patio table below at one time or another - it'll give you a good idea of how deep the snow really gets here. Oh, and check out the grill! Apparently the cover flew off in one of our many storms (it's buried under snow to the left of the grill) .... anyone wanna cook out and hang out on the deck??? :-)

Greektown in Detroit

Jason & I visited Greektown in Detroit for the first time today, located about an hour south of where we live. We both love Greek food, so we did some research online and found the Pegasus Taverna. Their menu had all of our Greek favorites so we decided to check it out.

We were definitely not dissappointed! We started with the Saganaki (flaming cheese) for an appetizer. We were having a hard time selecting a meal, so our server recommended the "Piatela Pegasou," or Pegasus Combination Platter. The platter was HUGE and included lamb chops, broiled shrimp, gyros, spanakotiropeta (spinach cheese pie - leaf spinach, feta cheese and spices in thin filo), dolmathes (seasoned rice, chickpeas, dill, garlic and mint wrapped in grape leaves), Moussaka (eggplant, potatoes, sautéed onions, seasoned with spices), rice and vegetables. We had enough left over to feed a small army!!!! :-)

For dessert (believe it or not, we did save room for dessert!) we had baklava - if you have never tried it, baklava is made of filo dough, honey, nuts cinnamon and sugar and is to die for!

After our meal we wandered around the Greektown Casino, lost $5 in 3 seconds on the slot machines, then decided to head back home because it was 1 degree today - that's right, 1 DEGREE! Even though it was freezing, we managed to have a great time.

Our daily routine :-)

Removing snow from our vehicles has become a daily routine! Last night we took the truck out for a spin (it had been sitting for several weeks) Here are a few pictures of Jason cleaning off the truck.

It's still cold .... (imagine that)

This weather is really depressing .... when you grow up in the south you truly do not realize how lucky you are to have nice weather. What we consider cold in NC/VA is not even close! I am trying to stay positive, but it's hard to get motivated when it is freezing outside. I drove to work yesterday in the snow, slipping and sliding the whole way there! I was driving about 40MPH down the interstate while other drivers flew by me like I was standing still. I think I need a "Driving in the Snow" class because I clearly do not know what I am doing!

I thought I would try and find a "fun" event to do in the snow .... looks like Detroit is hosting a "Winter Blast" next weekend. Go to http://www.winterblast.com/ to check out the details. Should be a fun time, but definitely need to bundle up!

I promise I will get some pictures of the snow on here soon ... the river has frozen over and looks really cool, definitely want everyone to see that!
